High quality Rioja falls usually into two categories – the more traditional style aged for years in American oak and the more modern richer concentrated style which spends some years in new French oak. What´s the difference you may ask? New French oak gives sweeter vanilla tones to the wine and these wines are often very opulent smooth and rich when young. Roda Reserva falls into the modern league.
Bodegas Roda is quite a young winery by Rioja standards and was established in 1987 by two entrepreneurial wine lovers Mario Rotland and Carmen Daurella, in the heart of historic Rioja in Haro´s Barrio de la Estacion. Using high quality native grapes (Tempranillo, Graciano, Garnacha) from old “bush-trained” vines, Roda has carved out a very high reputation in the region.

Deep ruby colour. Rich aromas of vanilla, baking spice, black fruits – black cherry, blackberry, black plums. On the palate very well balanced with refreshing acidity, medium body, very good concentration of black fruits, spice, cedar, and undergrowth, with fine chalky tannins and a persistent finish. Rich and elegant. Feels very young now with the rich fruit taking the upper-hand. Long aging potential. Drink within next 10 – 12 year. Great with winter stews, lamb or game.
